Projectors are increasingly being used in the workplace as well as the home. Choosing the right projector is not easy. There is a great deal of confusion over the various performance measurements used to describe the picture quality of projectors. TCO Development is therefore working on developing a TCO certification for projectors. The idea behind the TCO certification for projectors is to make it easier to choose a projector by sorting out the models that meet relevant requirements concerning picture quality, energy consumption and environmental requirements. Even requirements concerning the lifespan of projector lamps will be defined in the TCO certification for projectors. The certification requirements will distinguish between projectors for home movie use and those for the office environment.
During September, a draft version of requirements and test methods for the TCO certification of projectors was sent to trade organizations, test laboratories and other organizations for their consideration.
It is expected that projector manufacturers will be able to apply for TCO certification next year.
